Egypt Page Wins the Long Jump National Title

“I was really down after COVID, but I just kept telling myself that everyone else is going through the same thing and that I can overcome it,” Page said. “When I am down, I tend to remind myself that it is something I can use as motivation.”
Spring sports returned to SUNY for the Spring 2021 semester and Page was ready. He entered the outdoor national championships as the fourth-ranked long jumper in the nation after qualifying with a leap of 7.40m before qualifying for the finals after posting a leap of 7.19m in the preliminaries.
“I saw a lot of tough competition throughout the season, but I knew what mattered most was that one jump so I saved all my energy for that,” Page said.
Page ended up posting a leap of 7.42m on his first attempt in the finals, tying his personal best outdoor record and securing his first NCAA Division III National Outdoor Track and Field Championship title. He is now the second men’s outdoor national champion in program history, the fifth national outdoor champion (both men and women’s) in the program’s, and the ninth champion overall between men and women’s indoor and outdoor programs.
“Winning this means the world to me,” Page said. “Student athletes have a lot going on both in and outside of the classroom and this win is both a mental thing and physical thing for me. After winning I was able to finally sit down and process it at all and appreciate everything I’ve been through.”
