Student Organization Award Finalists & Recipients

On behalf of Brockport Student Government, Campus Recreation, and Student Union and Activities, we are honored to celebrate this year’s recipients and finalists for our various student organization awards.

Thank you to all those who nominated so many well-deserving candidates for the awards. Please take a moment to reach out to your outgoing officers, your advisor, and your members to thank them for making your organization what it is and celebrate all that your organization accomplished over the year.  

Student Organization of the Year Award

This award is open to any registered student organization at SUNY Brockport. Its purpose is to recognize a student organization that has embodied their mission and that of the College throughout the organization work during the current academic years. It honors one registered student organization that has enhanced the college, student community, the development of their organization members, and has continued to be reputable while having a strong presence on Brockport’s campus and in the surrounding community!  

This Year’s Student Organization of the Year is:  

Student Dance Organization 

The Student Dance Organization found ways to not just maintain their organization, but to truly grow and thrive as an organization, even with difficult circumstances. They had a consistent social media presence and found was to engage with first-year and transfer students to help grow their membership. They hosted countless virtual events including four virtual residencies with dance artists who provided free classes for dancers and Brockport students. The organization also found ways to have a positive impact on the community by using several of their events to raise money and awareness for organizations such as the Willow Domestic Violence Center. 

The finalists for the student organization of the year are those organizations who have been selected as the top of their council or department. Congratulations to everyone for some outstanding work this year! 

  •  BSG Academic Council Club of the Year: Eurosim 

Even under tough conditions, the Eurosim club continued to thrive this year. They maintained weekly meetings, grew their membership, and continued to teach their members how politics are used in real-world settings. The club also participated in the annual Eurosim conference, hosted virtually in March, along with 20 other colleges and universities across the United States and Europe. 

  • BSG Cultural Council Organization of the Year: Caribbean Student Association 

Even though the Caribbean Student Association wasn’t able to host several of their traditionally large events this year, they still found ways to make their presence known on campus. They connected with the students and their members through social media and hosted several virtual and in-person events including things like painting, movie nights, and game nights. 

  • BSG Service Council Organization of the Year: These Hands Speak 

The These Hands Speak club continued to grow their organization and promote their mission of raising awareness for deaf culture and American Sign Language. They did this by creating an inclusive environment at all of their club meetings, where students of varying levels of experience with sign language could participate and learn. They also hosted multiple virtual events and collaborated with other clubs and organizations. 

  •  BSG Social Arts Council Organization of the Year: Student Dance Organization

  • Club Sport of the Year:Brockport Dance Team 

This past year Brockport Dance Team has truly excelled! Through offering many different virtual programs, weekly meetings, and in-person programming and fundraisers BDT has managed to remain active and engaging for all members this year. Brockport Dance Team also continues to collaborate with different student organizations and departments across campus, providing students memorable and exciting opportunities. Congratulations BDT! 

  •  FSL Chapter of the Year:Phi Sigma Sigma Sorority – Delta Sigma Chapter 

In a year like no other, Phi Sigma Sigma Sorority - Delta Sigma Chapter was able to welcome 26 women through successful virtual recruitment and new member education. They held various virtual and in-person sisterhood events to stay connected through the pandemic. The women also maintained their Greek standing of highest chapter GPA. Congratulations Phi Sigma Sigma! 

Student Organization Officer of the Year

This award is open to all registered student organization officers. This award recognizes an individual who publicly advanced the mission of their organization while challenging and encouraging members to advance new initiatives, acquire new skills, and prepare the organization for leadership transition and ongoing success. This award is bestowed upon the individual who has illustrated commitment and leadership to their organization and their surrounding community 

This year’s Student Organization Officer of the year is:  

Stevie RudakDance Team and Meditation, Mindfulness and Healing Club 

As president of the Brockport Dance Team and vice president of Mediation, Mindfulness and Healing, Stevie has showcased exemplarily leadership qualities. According to her nominator, Stevie is a leader in every sense of the work. She is extremely dedicated, and a strong advocate for her organization, her peers, and herself. She is all around a remarkable leader and officer! 

Congratulations to our Student Organization Officer of the Year Finalist  

  • Kaitlin Hill, Student Dance Organization: As secretary and the founder of the community outreach committee of the Student Dance Organization, Kaitlin has displayed exemplary leadership skills. She almost single-handedly built the new community outreach committee from the ground up. Kaitlin constantly puts forth her best effort into all of her projects and activities. She is truly a major asset to the Student Dance Organization! 
  • Frank Meiler, Eurosim: As president of Eurosim, Frank has been an extraordinary leader. He continually goes above and beyond to build and grow Eurosim. Frank is always willing to discuss new topics and ideas with members and makes sure that every member’s voice is heard. Frank works tirelessly to ensure that Eurosim is the best organization it can be and all members are able to grow and thrive. 

Student Organization Event of the Year

This award is given to a registered student organization that hosted an event (On-campus or virtually) during this academic school year. The award specifically recognizes events or programs that are collaborative, innovative, unique, inclusive to the campus community, and have clearly stated outcomes. 

Congratulations to the 2020/2021 Recipient:  

  • Danceworks, Student Dance Organization: Student Dance Organization was able to create an extremely successful and safe program this year. At Danceworks, members were able to choreograph and perform their own dance videos before compiling all of them to create one big performance. Through this, members were able to learn new techniques, perform original pieces and connect with other members! Congrats SDO!

Student Organization Outstanding Diversity, Equity &Inclusion

This award will be presented to a student organization that has demonstrated (a) sustained initiative(s) to promote diversity, build community, raise awareness, and create a more inclusive and equitable atmosphere at The College at Brockport. The recipient of this award has: upheld their values and the mission statement for the Brockport community has fulfilled a commitment to shifting the campus climate to promote equity and inclusion, has raised awareness of marginalized groups, experiences, and identities, and has demonstrated efforts of communication and collaboration within the Brockport community.  

Congratulations to the 2020/2021 Recipient:  

  • Women of Color Empowerment: Women of Color Empowerment is a student organization focused on providing space and facilitating discussions for women of color at Brockport to express themselves, and provide events centered around self-care and female empowerment. WOCE has done amazing work this past year and hosted numerous events centered around professional development, body positivity, feminism, current events, and hot topics. WOCE and its members work tirelessly to provide women of color a safe space to share their voice and stories. Congratulations WOCE!

Student Organization Unsung Hero

This award recognizes a single member of a registered student organization who has established himself or herself as an emerging leader, having made significant contributions to their organization’s mission, vision, and goals. This student “gives their all” to the organization, demonstrating true commitment and devotion to the organization both on campus and within the community. The nominee demonstrates the potential for advancement to a leadership position. 

Congratulations to the 2020/2021 Recipient:  

  • Lily Wegerski, Honors Club: As a member of Honors Club, Lily is a true asset. Her nominator says she always shows up to each meeting with a smile on her face. She is always the first to offer help in any way possible, whether that’s through designing different logos for Honors Club or establishing collaborations with different student organizations. As only a freshman, Lily has made a huge positive impact and definitely will continue to do so throughout her time at Brockport. Congratulations Lily!

Student Organization Advisor of the Year

This award is presented to the student organization advisor that has shown outstanding advisement in supporting the efforts of the student organization. The individual receiving this award will be judged on their advisory and support skills for the student organization. The recipient of this award has had a significant impact on the organization through their role as a mentor, a motivator, an educator, a policy/risk agent, and/or a coach and team builder 

Congratulations to the 2020/2021 Recipient:  

  • Brittany Profit-Rheinwald, Phi Sigma Sigma and Student Nursing Organization: As an advisor to both Phi Sigma Sigma and the Student Nursing Organization, Brittany has been an extraordinary mentor and leader. In both roles, she gives 110% and is always willing to listen to and help any member. Brittany is an amazing support to both organizations and all members! Congratulations Brittany!
