New Community Justice Major Opens Fall 2021

The focus of SUNY Brockport’s Community Justice program is the integration of a “step-into-their-shoes” anthropological approach to the criminological pursuit of justice. It educates students about how societal systems interact with personal histories to create different realities for different people.

If you’re a student who notices injustices in the world and hopes to make fundamental changes, the college’s new Community Justice Program that combines courses from the Departments of Criminal Justice and Anthropology is for you. The unique focus of the program is the integration of a “step-into-their-shoes” anthropological approach to the criminological pursuit of justice. It focuses on educating students about how societal systems interact with personal histories to create different realities for different people. This multi-level understanding is key for students interested in cultivating careers in advocacy and human rights, the legal or law enforcement fields, humanitarian and community workers, and forensic specialists.
