History Professor Publishes Book on the American Welfare State

Dr. Elizabeth Garner Masarik (assistant professor in the Department of History) is about to publish her first book, on how middle-class-women-led reform by both African American and white women built the American welfare state in the late 1800s into the Progressive Era.

The book is now available for pre-order. The Sentimental State: How Women-Led Reform built the American Welfare State will be of interest to colleagues in Women and Gender Studies, Social Work, Political Science, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Education, and Public Administration.
