Education Professors & Students Publish Article on Young Adult Literature

Professors from the Department of Education and Human Development and Department of Educational Administration worked alongside students to publish a paper on Black young adult literature.

Dr. Averill Kelley, Dr. Cody Miller, and Dr. Kate Colantonio-Yurko from the Department of Education and Human Development and Dr. Diantha Watts from the Department of Educational Administration worked with students Jashaun Howard (undergraduate, English education) and Nicole Johnson (graduate, English education) to publish a peer-reviewed article.

The article, “Selecting and Teaching Young Adult Literature Through Black Historical Consciousness Principles” was published in the International Journal of Multicultural Education. The team used the theory of Black historical consciousness to analyze multiple young adult literautre titles by Black authors with the aim of providing new insights into centering Black knowledges and narratives in secondary classrooms.
