Environmental Science & Ecology Professor Receives Two Research Grants

Dr. Jacques Rinchard received two research grants totaling $6,370 from the US Fish and Wildlife Service in Washington to determine thiamine concentrations in salmon eggs.

Thiamine deficiency has been observed in fish and wildlife in North America and Europe, and has been linked to neurological disorders, immunosuppression, and lower recruitment.  Students in Dr. Rinchard’s lab will be assessing thiamine concentrations in salmon eggs from several fish hatcheries located in Washington (Winthrop, Leavenworth, Quilcene) using high performance chromatography.

The grants will be administered by The Research Foundation for SUNY under the Scholarship, Research & Sponsored Programs Office.
