Recently Hired KSSPE Faculty Receives $20,000 Grant

Dr. Christian Martínez received a 20K grant from the government of Puerto Rico Municipality of Mayaguez to continue his research work and interventions in Childhood Obesity.
The newly hired faculty in the Kinesiology, Sports Studies, and Physical Education (KSSPE) Dr. Christian Martínez received a 20K grant from the government of Puerto Rico Municipality of Mayaguez to continue his research work and interventions in Childhood Obesity with the Non-Profit Organization Wellness Pediatric LLC. located in the Municipality of Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.
Dr. Martínez is the author of the book Childhood Obesity in Puerto Rico, and he has more than 15 years of working with interventions in unrepresentative groups to reduce health disparities in Puerto Rico. He developed the first intervention program in Puerto Rico to reduce Childhood obesity called Children Fitzone Inc. in 2008. Currently, he collaborates with Dr. Jeniffer Cruz, a pediatrician in Mayaguez, combines medical and physical activity tests to create an innovative and unique approach to reducing childhood obesity in the West Region of Puerto Rico.
