RN to BSN Nursing Student Serving Medical Mission in Guatemala

Wilfredo Rivera RN is presently participating in a medical mission trip to Guatemala organized by the Help Us Give Smiles (HUGS) Foundation. He is an essential member of the surgical team within the operating room (OR), focused on providing vital repairs for patients with cleft lips and cleft palates.
This is Rivera’s second medical mission since beginning the RN to BSN program at SUNY Brockport, as he had also completed a similar trip to Ecuador last April to help those with ear microtia.
Prior to beginning the program, Rivera had also served a medical mission in Columbia making this his third trip abroad to volunteer his talents and his skills to those in need.
Earlier this year Rivera was also selected by the physicians at the University of Rochester as “OR NURSE of the Year” making his contributions to nursing both local and global while keeping up with his studies.
