SUNY Brockport’s Limnology Laboratory & SUNY Geneseo Collaborate for Research on Conesus Lake

The Environmental Science and Ecology’s Limnology Laboratory and SUNY Geneseo were awarded approximately $22,000 from the Livingston County Planning Department to evaluate water quality in Conesus Lake.

The SUNY Brockport Limnology Laboratory and SUNY Geneseo were awarded approximately $22,000 from the Livingston County Planning Department to evaluate water quality in Conesus Lake, agricultural best management practice (“BMP”) and non-BMP streams, unassessed waters, and reference streams in the Conesus Lake watershed.

The Limnology Laboratory and SUNY-Geneseo are also evaluating the phytoplankton community and mechanisms potentially triggering harmful algal blooms in the lake. Dr. Michael Chislock and his undergraduate and graduate students are working together with Sid Bosch and students from SUNY Geneseo for this project. Ultimately, this research will further our understanding of harmful algal bloom management as well as assist in implementation of the Conesus Lake Watershed Management Plan.

The award is administered by The Research Foundation for SUNY under the Scholarship, Research & Sponsored Programs Office.
