Limnology Laboratory Supports Management of Lake Ontario Watersheds in Genesee County

The Environmental Science and Ecology’s Limnology Laboratory was awarded $16,116 from the Genesee County Soil and Water Conservation District to support long-term water chemistry and field data monitoring efforts on targeted Lake Ontario tributaries in the county.

Michael Chislock and his undergraduate and graduate students will assist in identification of trends and evaluation of current watershed strategies in tributaries. This information will be used by local planners to create, modify, and implement watershed management plans and strategies to address water pollution. Ultimately, this work will support implementation of agricultural and nonagricultural best management practices to restore or protect the water quality of these Great Lakes’ tributaries.

The award is administered by The Research Foundation for SUNY under the Scholarship, Research & Sponsored Programs Office.
