Fight Against Fraud
Karen Webber ’09/’10 combined her roles as a CPA and founder of a software company to combat financial exploitation.

Serving as a Partner at The Bonadio Group, Karen Webber ’09/’10 utilizes her expertise in forensic accounting to combat fraud.
“In my role, I work to investigate organizational fraud within businesses, crimes against individuals, divorce cases, and litigation matters,” Webber said.
Webber has dedicated her career to fighting against financial exploitation. Her first experience was during her graduate program when she interned for a non-profit agency that investigated situations where people were taking advantage of the elderly. Webber found her passion in this line of work, which led her to start her own business – Webber CPA.
After eight years of running her own company, Webber realized she could benefit from automating the work her firm had repeatedly been handling for clients.
“I thought it would be really cool if we could figure out a software to do this work,” Webber said. “Not long after this thought, I found someone to create the software, and founded Fraudfindr.”
“A good leader knows when to step aside, and this allowed my employees to pursue new avenues that the larger practice provides.”

Fraudfindr is a software that solves complex financial exploitation cases.
Using the software, one can analyze transaction data, create court-ready reports, and receive an alert of potential fraud within seconds.
“Transitioning from Founder of a CPA firm, to starting a high-risk technology firm, took a lot of resources and effort,” said Webber.
Noticing the potential of the software The Bonadio Group quickly reached out to Webber about acquiring FraudFindr. Following the acquisition, Webber’s former employees embraced change and were open to exploring new career paths in accounting.
“I knew in my heart that this was the perfect deal,” Webber said. “A good leader knows when to step aside, and this allowed my employees to pursue new avenues that the larger practice provides.”
After the acquisition, The Bonadio Group expanded its services and its team, incorporating Webber’s software beyond traditional accounting, consulting, small business advising, and tax services.
