Dance Professor Collaborates in Dance/Movement Therapy Project with MFA Alum
Mariah Maloney (Associate Professor of Dance) and Hannah Seidel (Associate Professor of Dance, Grand Valley State University, MI) completed a new collaborative dance composition applying concepts from Seidel’s study of Dance/Movement Therapy to the choreographic process.
The work is part of a suite of pieces created during Seidel’s spring 2023 sabbatical. Each piece brings a therapeutic awareness to the navigation of expression and relationship as they exist in dance rehearsals and performances. Maloney and Seidel’s duet draws on individuality, communality, and environmental factors to inform playful engagement in shared movement structures. The works will be presented in Michigan in the spring of 2024.
