The Department of Communication Speech Lab is now open!

The Department of Communication is proud to announce the opening of the CMC Speech Lab this semester! The CMC Speech Lab is a free service available for students to help them with all levels of the speech preparation process. We are happy to assist students with topic selection, organizational patterns, researching and incorporating supporting materials, constructing appropriate introductions and conclusions, outlining, creating presentation aids, and delivery practice. We also pay particular attention to assisting students with managing public speaking apprehension. We believe that our services should not focus on completing a task, but rather, on helping visitors consider and address what competencies a speaking engagement is meant to demonstrate. As such, in addition to helping our students prepare, we hope to help visitors understand how elements of the task at hand translate to broader skills.
For more information, please feel free to contact the Director of the CMC Speech Lab, Jake Nickell, at jnickell@brockport.edu. You may also contact the CMC Speech Lab directly at speechlab@brockport.edu.
**Note: As this is the Speech Lab’s pilot semester, we are currently in a stage of “soft opening” – meaning, we are currently only able to assist students enrolled in CMC 201: Public Speaking, as well as students preparing for the Brockport Debate Society Digital Speech Competition. However, we anticipate a full opening in the Fall of 2021 and will be happy to offer aid to all SUNY Brockport students for any kind of presentation across academic, professional, and personal settings.
