Environmental Science & Ecology Professor Receives Research Grant
Dr. Jacques Rinchard received a new research grant for $1,800 from the Colorado Department of Natural Resources Parks and Wildlife Division to determine thiamine concentrations in Kakonee salmon eggs.
Thiamine is essential vitamine (B1) needed for cell function. Thiamine deficiency has been observed in fish and wildlife in North America and Europe, and has been linked to neurological disorders, immunosuppression, and lower recruitment. Students in Dr. Rinchard’s lab will be assessing thiamine concentrations in Kakonee salmon eggs treated with thiamine using high performance liquid chromatography.
The grant will be administered by The Research Foundation for SUNY Brockport under the Scholarship, Research & Sponsored Programs Office.
