PR Club’s Research on Period Poverty Wins Award

Period Poverty refers to the fact that some menstruators cannot afford the supplies they need. The PR Club’s research on the topic won in the student-level Insights and Analysis Category of the Rochester Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) PRism Awards.
Portia Wojton, a senior Journalism and Broadcasting Major, accepted the award on behalf of the club. Fellow club member Kate McCarthy, a 2023 graduate, and the club’s faculty adviser, Dr. Sadia Cheema, also attended the awards ceremony.
Students from Rochester and Finger Lakes-area colleges and universities including but not limited to Ithaca College and St. John Fisher University compete annually for Rochester PRSA PRism awards. Brockport’s PR Club has won awards in the competition three out of the past five years including this year.
