What’s Behind the Scene: A look at the upcoming campus play, “Sweat.”

Sweat

What’s Behind the Scene will take a closer look at the upcoming campus play, Sweat.
Join us as director Sofia Ubilla and campus actors explore the stories behind the play.

The Pulitzer Prize winning play Sweat offers a powerful, emotional look at a struggling community. The author, Lynn Nottage, began working on the play in 2011 by interviewing numerous residents of Reading, Pennsylvania, which at the time was officially one of the poorest cities in America. Seeing the effects of job loss and the economic struggle people were facing first hand is what truly inspired her work for the play Sweat.

What’s Behind the Scene will explore the different characters and the stories of the play. Director Sofia Ubilla and campus actors will take a closer look at the play, examining the themes of identity, race, economy, and humanity. We will also look at the question: In what ways is the play still relevant today?

What’s Behind the Scene will be on Wednesday, April 19th @ 4pm, Drake Memorial Library main floor.
