Chemistry Professor Reaches Pubishing Milestone with Help from Undergraduate Students

Professor Markus Hoffmann (Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry) published two peer-reviewed articles in short succession, alongside undergraduate co-authors, reaching 50 peer-reviewed works at SUNY Brockport.

Both articles are co-authored by Brockport undergraduate students: Matthew Too ’22, Nathaniel Paddock, Nathaniel Randall, and Miray Apak (all slated to graduate May 2023).

The articles resulted from collaborative research with the Groups of Professor Buntkowsky and Professor Vogel at the Technical University Darmstadt, Germany. The research is supported by German and US funding sources (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft and National Science Foundation) which supported the students and Hoffmann to travel to Germany for summer research stays. The published articles provide molecular-level understanding of polyethylene glycol, which is considered a “green solvent” because of its environmentally benign characteristics including being nontoxic and biodegradable.
