Inclusive Teaching: Strategies for Promoting Equity in the College Classroom by Kelly A. Hogan & Viji Sathy

This book provides opportunity for the reader to reflect on how individuals and communities can make all students feel welcome and included; that inclusive teaching is beyond identities. Written by college faculty, the authors provide practical ways to include more voices in a series of contexts: when giving instructions for group work and class activities, holding office hours, communicating with students, and more. The framework describing why explicit attention to structure enhances inclusiveness in both course design and interactions with and between students is presented. This book is for new and experienced educators.

CELT will provide each member with a hard copy of the book.

Participants are expected to participate in all three sessions (at CELT- Edwards 100B) from 12:30-1:30 pm:

  • Monday March 20, 2023 (chapters 1 and 2)
  • Monday April 10, 2023 (chapters 3, 4, 5)
  • Monday May 1, 2023 (chapters 6 and 7)

Facilitated by Claudette Brown-Smythe, Department of Counselor Education
