Douglass Day Transcribe-a-Thon was a Success

Drake Library recently hosted a successful 2023 Douglass Day transcribe-a-thon. Attendees transcribed the papers of Mary Ann Shadd Cary (African American activist, writer, teacher, and lawyer, first Black North American newspaper editor).
Transcribing Mary Ann Shadd Cary uses a crowdsourcing platform, Zooniverse.org, that enables remote access to primary sources in the digital humanities and more. Over 300 entries were added to this global project during Drake Library’s two-hour event.
The project is ongoing and can be accessed at Transcribe Shadd Cary — Zooniverse. It is an engaging way to learn more and contribute to open access and digital scholarship.
