>> In case you haven’t heard, Homecoming & Family Weekend is scheduled October 5-8, 2023, and it will be our biggest celebration ever. Not only have we extended the weekend to include events on Sunday, but we’ve also expanded our offerings. The classic events return such as the parade, athletic events, tailgate, awards, and the festival, but this year’s celebration will include a free stand-up comedy performance by Roy Wood Jr., fireworks, a networking opportunity, a 5K race and even brunch! Seriously there is something for every family member. Bring the whole crew out and join us on Homecoming & Family Weekend: October 5-8!

>> We are pleased to announce that over the summer, Brockport’s very own Class of 2000 graduate Betsy Standish was named the Director of Alumni Engagement.

>> Athletics announced a couple of big changes that will be implemented in 2024. SUNY Brockport is leaving the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) to join the Empire 8 as a full-fledged member (considering football was already in the E8). Since the E8 does not have enough hockey programs it was announced that the Golden Eagles hockey program will join the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC). Gymnastics will maintain its membership in the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) as will wrestling with the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference (ECWC).

>> The Port is SUNY Brockport’s monthly publication offered throughout the fall and spring semesters, with an exception in January. Its resumption also coincides with the popular Class Notes section, where we offer alums the chance to put the spotlight on their successful and/or exciting moments in life (ie: new job, promotion, wrote a book, starred in a production, featured on a newscast, travelled somewhere amazing, celebrating a momentous anniversary, etc.). Find the latest edition of Class Notes from the Summer of 2023 here, or follow this link to Submit a Class Note for the next edition.

>> Our advancement staff regularly looks for opportunities to benefit our alumni population and enhance SUNY Brockport. This month we have two options. One, we have partnered with FreeWIll to share an online tool that allows you to create an estate plan at No Cost! Most people finish in 20 minutes or less, and although it would greatly be appreciated, there is no obligation to make a gift to Brockport. Secondly, the SUNY Impact Foundation tax credit is back. This option offers significant tax saving benefits, where individuals able to make a gift of $10,000 or more can receive 85% New York State (NYS) tax credit on a qualified contribution, plus more. Learn more about the program, but act fast as applications must be requested through Brockport by September 30.

>> A number of exciting events await you this year! We’ve already mentioned Homecoming & Family Weekend: October 5-8, but we have a bevy of other events to keep you coming back for more like:

  • First Fridays – Every month throughout the fall and spring semesters, the First Friday of each month marks a time when alumni, faculty, staff, emeriti, and retirees gather to socialize over some tasty snacks and refreshments. The event typically is housed in the Alumni House between 4:00 – 5:30 pm. * Please note, our October edition of First Friday has been moved to a First Monday on October 2nd to avoid overlap with Homecoming & Family Weekend.
  • Mornings with the Professors – Weekly sessions from our expert faculty and staff make up one half of the Lifelong Learning opportunities offered at Brockport. Join our presenters for engaging conversation on a wide range of topics that are key to their hearts.
  • Athletic Competitions – There’s never a dull moment for the Golden Eagles as they strive for victory, conference championships, and NCAA berths.
  • Solar Eclipse – On Monday, April 8, 2024 Brockport will the site of an extremely rare natural phenomenon – a total solar eclipse. We expect to be a major destination for tourists from across the world and invite our alumni to be among that population.

>> Our Alumni Referral program was a major success last year and we’d like to continue encouraging alumni to refer prospective students our way and we’ll waive the application fee. Why should students come to SUNY Brockport? Because, Excellence is within your reach. Use this link to refer an Undergraduate Student – or – use this link to refer a Graduate Student.
