Holiday Party
>>Did you hear about the dozens of Golden Eagles that gathered in New York State in January? No it wasn’t a strange act of mother nature, it was Brockport alumni celebrating the holidays and their alma mater at Genesee Brew House in Rochester and at Sandy Jack’s in New York City. Thank you to the fly group of Green & Gold alums that braved the cold to celebrate the Holiday season. Check out the pics from Rochester and New York City. Read the alumni newsletter and check out our events page on a regular basis so you don’t miss exciting gatherings like this.

Super Bowl Bound
>>For the second straight year there will be a SUNY Brockport connection with team representing the NFC in the NFL’s Super Bowl. This season’s connection is the San Francisco 49ers’ offensive assistant Jordan Hogan ’13. Hogan is one of six 2023 Bill Walsh NFL Diversity Fellows Coach. Learn about Hogan’s journey from growing up in Western New York to the Super Bowl. Last season Scott Kaniecki ’08 was on staff with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Day of Giving - March 6
>>In 2023, more than 1,400 donors participated in our Day of Giving. Join us this year, on March 6, and give to what you love. Together we can support and create opportunities that Help Golden Eagles Soar.

Total Solar Eclipse - April 8
>>Western New York will be a central destination on April 8 for Solar Eclipse viewers and attract travelers from around the world. Brockport, specifically, falls on the center line and will experience several additional seconds of the eclipse, compared to other locations. The University is offering Event Passes to visitors for the once-in-a-lifetime occasion. A series of exciting events will center on the eclipse throughout the day, including a concert from Christine Lavin ’73. Exclusive limited time only “Total Eclipse of the Port” apparel and gear is available. In addition, professor Eric Monet and Brockport’s digital media team linked up for an awesome video teaching you “Everything You Need to Know Before Seeing Your First Solar Eclipse.” It’s going to be stellar!

Track & Field National Champions Board
>>Three of the eight Golden Eagles to claim individual track & field national championships in their respective events were present for the unveiling of the Track & Field National Champions Board during the program’s home opening event of the season. The board features photos of each individual national champion: Mark Lineweaver (Decathlon, 1975), Carrie Gorton Ciripompa (Javelin, 1991), Pamela Leffler Hull (400 Meter Hurdles, 1992), Nick Stanisavljevic (Indoor High Jump, 2007), Shannon O’Keeffe (Indoor Triple Jump, 2008), Zack Ferrara (Indoor Pole Vault, 2013), Victoire Kothor (Indoor & Outdoor Shot Put, 2018), and Egypt Page (Outdoor Long Jump, 2021). Ferrara, Kothor, and Page were in attendance.

Going Strong After a Half Century of Teaching
>>Gail Mattraw ’73 is living proof of not “working” a day in your life if you find something you love to do. This year she reached the milestone of 50 years in front of the classroom all at one school district in upstate New York. Read more.

25th Anniversary Empire 8 Football Team
>>SUNY Brockport had 15 alumni from its football program named to the Empire 8 25th Anniversary Team. All players named to the 25th Anniversary Team were chosen by the league office and were named either a Player of the Year, AFCA or D3Football.com All-American, or earned All-Empire 8 First-Team honors at least three times in their collegiate careers. Congrats to: Joe Germinerio, Dan Andrews, Adan Barrientos, Caleb Ferdillus, Luke Lodini, Mark Sanchez, Tarik Bennett, Austin Dean, Josh Greenwood, Alex West, Rashad Baker, Raylens Boutin, Jake O’Connell, Alaan Montgomery, and Brett Renzi.
