New Gallery exhibition, Liberated from Storage: Selections from the SUNY Brockport Art Collection, runs March 8 – 28.

Aside from being a wonderful place to learn how to make art, the Department of Art at SUNY Brockport, and its Tower Fine Arts Center Gallery, is also the repository for a treasure trove of eclectic works made by students, alumni, faculty and emeriti, and regional and nationally recognized artists. Liberated from Storage: Selections from the SUNY Brockport Arts Collection, running from March 8 – 28, 2021, will feature some of the many pieces that have been acquired by the Gallery through the years. The Gallery is located at 180 Holley Street, Brockport, and the exhibit is free. Social distancing will be strictly enforced, as will other pandemic protocols. The Gallery has also adjusted its hours, which will now be Monday – Friday: 12 – 5 pm, and Sunday: 1 – 4 pm. PLEASE NOTE: During the Spring 2021 semester, the Gallery will only be open to students, faculty, and staff. Unfortunately, we will not be able to be open to the general public.

During the past year, the art department has lost three of its distinguished emeriti: Robert Marx, Mirko Pylyshenko, and Bill Stewart, and the exhibition will not only feature some of their works but will be dedicated to them.

Tim Massey, the Gallery’s director, expressed that “The academic value of the campus art collection cannot be made more evident than by this pandemic. It is highly important to be able to present a variety of quality artworks for our students’ academic and aesthetic enrichment. I believe our recently departed emeriti, to whom this exhibition is dedicated, would agree with this notion.”

Gallery hours:
Monday – Friday: 12 noon – 5 pm
Sunday: 1 – 4 pm

PLEASE NOTE: During the Spring 2021 semester, the Gallery will only be open to students, faculty, and staff. Unfortunately, we will not be able to be open to the general public.
