The Fire Inspector is inspecting all living, learning, and work areas on campus. Please help us Protect the Nest by taking a moment to review your work area for these potential fire and life safety hazards.

The Fire Inspector is on campus inspecting all living, learning, and work areas on campus.  Please help us Protect the Nest and avoid potential monetary fines by taking a moment to review your work area for these potential fire and life safety hazards.

  • Extension cords – are for temporary use only. Unplug them when not using them.
  • Power strips – do not plug strips into one another. Use only those with a reset button and a UL sticker.
  • Doors – don’t prop them open with a doorstop.
  • Storage – keep clearance between the items being stored and the ceiling. A minimum of 2’ distance is required by code.
  • Pedestrian pathways – keep them clear. Don’t store items in stairwells or hallways.
  • Life safety equipment (e.g., fire extinguishers, alarm pulls, AEDs) – keep the area in front and around them clear.
  • No open flames (e.g., do not burn candles, etc.)

This inspection will occur over the course of 3-4 weeks.  Efforts to minimize disruption will be made to the extent possible.  A campus staff member is escorting the inspector. Contact the Facilities Services with any questions.
