Environmental Science & Ecology Faculty Receives $3,000 Research Grant

Jacques Rinchard received a $3,000 research grant from the US Fish and Wildlife to evaluate thiamine concentration in Atlantic salmon eggs from Lake Champlain.

Thiamine deficiency complex is an ongoing problem impacting natural recruitment of salmonine species in the Great Lakes region and Lake Champlain.

Thus, Atlantic salmon egg thiamine levels have been monitored from females spawned at Vermont Fish and Wildlife Service Ed Weed Fish Culture Station since 2003.

With this current grant, Rinchard and undergraduate student researchers will measure thiamine levels in the Atlantic salmon eggs collected from Lake Champlain in 2020.

The grant will be administered by The Research Foundation for SUNY at SUNY Brockport.
