Physical Education Student Teacher Candidates Participate in Mock Interviews
On December 15, 2022, Physical Education student teacher candidates from the Department of Kinesiology, Sport Studies, and Physical Education (KSSPE) participated in mock interviews during their last student teaching seminar on campus.
The goal of the session was to provide an authentic interviewing experience for teaching candidates. Administrators were invited from mainly local school districts and conducted individual mock interviews. Each administrator interviewed about four candidates. Time was allotted for debriefing at the conclusion of the round of interviews. The seminar was an invaluable culminating activity for the candidates’ capstone experience. Featured guest speaker was Tilsa Gonzalez, Director of Health & Physical Education, New Rochelle City School District.
The Dr. Eugene F. Orbaker Award for Excellence in Student Teaching & Engagement also was presented by the PETE faculty, which recognized teaching candidates who go above and beyond expectations during their student teaching placements. Teaching candidates selected for the award (nominated in both placements) were Joe Bordonaro, Mackenzie Congdon, Christina Alonge, Zach St. Hilaire, Colin Pytlak, and Hannah Jock. Other nominees (nominated in one placement) were Madeline Kenneally, Courtney Cunningham, Keyshawn Brown, Matt Territo, and Kylie Kleine.
