Curl Up with a Great Book
Lift Bridge Book Shop has been a staple in the Village of Brockport for 50 years since it opened in 1972.
Lift Bridge offers two floors filled with books, reading accessories, board games, puzzles, and more. The basement consists completely of pre-owned books that have been either purchased by or donated to the store where customers can get a deal on a new release or find a classic.

The shop has remained locally owned throughout its history. Current co-owner John Bonczyk ’12 purchased Lift Bridge while working at the shop with his friend and coworker at the time, Cody Steffen, from founders Archie and Pat Kutz. In 2018, Sarah Bonczyk ’14 purchased Steffen’s portion of the shop and the Bonczyks became sole owners of Lift Bridge.
“I originally worked here in college and the previous owners were looking to sell the place,” John said. “My wife Sarah is the majority share owner now and she basically runs the place.”
The Bonczyks can be found in the store every day, talking with their customers and helping them find the perfect book or gift that fits their need.
Lift Bridge prides itself on its commitment to the Brockport community, shelving books written by local authors or about the Village and its history. They host multiple book clubs that members of the community are encouraged to join including the Eclectic Book group, Science Fiction Book Club, and Women Who Love to Read.
“Without our customers and this community, we are nothing. They mean everything to us.”
John Bonczyk
