Nursing Student and Chair Discuss Nursing Shortage on Spectrum News

Senior nursing student Leigh Sillen featured on Spectrum news discussing the nursing shortage with Chair of the Nursing Department Dr. Kathy Peterson.

It is estimated that 200,000 new nurses are going to be needing annually in the United States through 2030. Depsite nursing programs being fully enrolled, the nursing shortage will continue. The Department of Nursing (DON) admits 80 students every fall to the traditional nursing program and 40 each summer to the accelerated program. The DON is planning on adding 16 additional students to the accelerated nursing program in the summer of 2023.
