Undergraduate College and Major: SUNY Brockport - Health Science
Current Occupation: Confidential Secretary to the Village Manager, Village of Ardsley, NY
How and why did you decide to apply for SUNY Brockport MPA program?
I decided to obtain my MPA because I wanted to work for the administrative side of nonprofit organizations. When I started the program, I wanted to explore more of the Public Management field. I ended up choosing this line of work, but still received my Certificate in Nonprofit Management.
What have you enjoyed most about the program so far?
I have enjoyed the people - the professors, fellow students, and the MetroCenter staff as a whole. Everyone works together to create worthwhile experiences.
What does your job entail?
This job is new to me. Some of my responsibilities will be: liability insurance, municipal garbage services/rates, public inquiries, social media, and other things that come up along the way. I am very excited to begin this position and am happy to be with a Village that values teamwork.
What are your future goals?
For the near future, I would like to dedicate myself to being the best I can be within this position. I want to learn as much as I can from the projects and the individuals around me.
For the most distant future, I would eventually like to be a City/Town/Village Manager. I would like to stay in ICMA and NYSCMA and become a credentialed Manager.
Anything else you want to share:
I have had an excellent experience with the MPA department. I believe it is valuable to be involved with what you are doing. This program allows each student that chance and to me, that is most important. True friendships are made in this program, both professional and social. Showing this is not just a place to learn but to truly grow as an individual.
