Brockport Students Enhance Intercultural Competence Through Collaborative Online International Learning
Brockport Students enrolled in Dr. Jie Zhang’s special education courses collaborated with peers from France, Mexico, and Ukraine throughout the Spring 2022 semester as part of Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL).
In Spring 2022, Brockport students enrolled in Dr. Jie Zhang’s Introduction to Special Education and Assessment for Special Education COILed with peers from Universidad del Caribe, Mexico and Institut National Universitaire Champollion, France. Brockport students and their French peers also collaborated with faculty and students from Ternopil Volodymyr Hnatiuk National Pedagogical University, Ukraine for three weeks and completed a three-way introduction project until February 24, 2022, when the collaboration was interrupted by the war.
This was the third consecutive semester for Brockport-UniCaribe and Brockport-INU Champollion collaborations, and the second semester for the three-way collaboration among Brockport-INU Champollion-TNPU. Together, the students explored culture, language, ability diversity, and improved interdisciplinary and cross‐cultural communication skills.
Heartfelt thanks go to the colleagues on the COIL Steering Committee and the Center for Global Education and Engagement, who continued to support Dr. Jie Zhang to implement the COIL courses.
