Physical Education Student Teacher Candidates Participate in Mock Interviews
On Thursday, May 12, 2022, Physical Education student teacher candidates from the Department of Kinesiology, Sport Studies, and Physical Education (KSSPE) participated in mock interviews during their last student teaching seminar on campus.
The goal of the session was to provide an authentic interviewing experience for teaching candidates. Administrators were invited from local school districts and conducted individual mock interviews. Each administrator interviewed about four candidates. Time was allotted for debriefing at the conclusion of the round of interviews. The seminar was an invaluable culminating activity for the candidates’ capstone experience. Ashley John Grillo, Principal at Byron-Bergen Junior/Senior High School was the keynote speaker. Mr. Grillo presented important information on preparing for teaching interviews and professional expectations for a first-year teacher.
The Dr. Eugene F. Orbaker Award for Excellence in Student Teaching & Engagement also was presented by the PETE faculty, which recognized teaching candidates who go above and beyond expectations during their student teaching placements. Teaching candidates selected for the award were Desiree Palmatier, Sophia Simeone, Kayli Brown, Jamar McLeod, Amanda Lucas, Chris Eames, Kayla Usborne, Roberto Rios-Rowley, Peter Rifenburg, and Kylee Rosbrook.
