The Impact of CFO Gender on Corporate Overinvestment

Dr. Yin Liu and Dr. Pamela Neely, Professors in the Department of Accounting, Economics and Finance, co-authored a paper in Advance in Accounting.

Accounting Professors Dr. Yin Liu and Dr. Pamela Neely published a peer-reviewed paper titled “The impact of CFO gender on corporate overinvestment” in Advances in Accounting. Advances in Accounting is listed as an A journal in Australian Business Deans Council (ABCD) list of journals.

This study examines the association between CFO gender and corporate investment efficiency, specifically, the extent of firm-level overinvestment. We find that the presence of a female CFO is significantly associated with a decreased level of corporate overinvestment. Our findings highlight the benefits of gender diversity in senior management teams in supporting corporate financial and investment decisions.
