Departments of Education and Human Development & Educational Administration Awarded Teacher Pipeline Innovation Grant
The Teacher Pipeline Innovation Grant, $86,628, awarded by the Max and Marian Farash Charitable Foundation for 2022, will provide funding for the exploration of direct financial support models to expand the supply of teacher candidates from historically underrepresented backgrounds. Results will be used to inform local and statewide policymaking that could diversify New York’s teacher pipelines.
SUNY Brockport’s Teacher Pipeline Innovation project will use the Farash Foundation support to explore three different approaches.
- A Candidate Support Fund that will allow us to test whether providing modest direct cash support to eligible underrepresented teacher candidates can promote program completion or teacher certification;
- A Clinical Fellows Fund that will allow us to test whether paying eligible in-the-pipeline underrepresented teacher candidates a living wage could promote program completion or teacher certification;
- A Mentor Innovation Fund that would allow us to test whether non-traditional clinical experiences could promote faster time to degree, retention, or program completion among underrepresented teacher candidates.
Co-PIs on the project are Christian Wilkens (Department of Education & Human Development) and Diantha Watts (Department of Educational Administration).
The award will be administered by The Research Foundation for SUNY at Brockport.
