Students Help Children with Visual Impairments Get Active
On October 26, students in the Adapted Physical Education undergraduate and graduate program volunteered at the first-ever Blind Sports Expo in Syracuse.
The Blind Sports Expo was a collaboration between the Institute on Movement Studies for Individuals with Visual Impairments or Deafblindness from SUNY Brockport and SUNY Upstate Medical.
Two (Adapted Physical Education) APE courses from SUNY Cortland also volunteered. We hosted 20 youth who are blind and visually impaired and their families and offered blind soccer, goalball, fitness, jump rope, running, and orienteering. Every child left with a large box of equipment. Despite the terrible rain, it was a huge success!
