English Alum’s Essay Accepted for Publication
Lilia Hutchison ’21 recently had a version of her Master’s project, “One of Ours: Willa Cather’s “Exposé” of the Press’ Illusion of War,” accepted for publication in the spring 2022 issue of Cather Studies.
Using archival newspaper research, biography, and historical study of the US press, Hutchison argues that Willa Cather’s Pulitzer-Prize winning novel One of Ours engages with journalism to show its complicity in creating just the type of young man to volunteer for an idealistic war. She previously presented this work at the spring Cather Society conference.
