In 2019, family and friends renamed the Veterans Scholarship to the “Gary B. Beikirch ’81 Military Service Scholarship” in honor of Gary B. Beikirch, a Class of 1981 Golden Eagle and American hero. Sergeant Gary Beikirch served in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1971 as a medical aidman, in the 5th Special Forces Group, Detachment B-24, Company B and served actively during the Vietnam. War. Beikirch was awarded the Medal of Honor in 1973 for his actions at Camp Dak Sea.Q.g “for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty.” During the defense of Camp Dak Seang in 1970, Sgt. Beikirch risked his life to save comrades and was seriously wounded during the engagement.
Your participation honors not only our military veterans, but all active duty, retired, and reserve military personnel and their families who have given of themselves. Veterans Affairs representatives will be on site.
Help support the College’s Veteran Student Scholarship by participating in the 5K and/or making a special donation.
