Physics Professor Receives Grant from US Naval Research Laboratory
Dr. Zachary Robinson, Department of Physics, received $21,112 in funding from the United States Naval Research Laboratory to further the development of a III-Nitride growth system.
Atomic layer epitaxy (ALEp) is a powerful technique for synthesizing crystalline materials with atomic-scale precision. ALEp has recently been shown to be a viable growth technique for III-nitride materials, which have technological importance in power conversion, and energy-efficient lighting. Specifically, ALEp is useful for growing thin-films of InN, AIN, and GaN on various substrates.
The project funds further the development of an III-Nitride growth system that has the ability to measure the films without first removing them and transporting them through the air to an analysis instrument. The system, therefore, allows for the detailed understanding of the growth process necessary for intelligent engineering of materials.
The project is a collaboration between Dr. Zachary Robinson and Jeffrey Woodward, a scientist at the US Naval Research Laboratory.
Please reach out to Dr. Robinson if you have any questions or want to learn more.
The award will be administered by The Research Foundation for SUNY at SUNY Brockport.
